    Interest: Passion for Performing Arts and Community Development

    Location: Work from home. Committee meetings can be attended virtually or in person in Newcastle

    Commitment: Approximately 4 -10 hours per month plus attendance at six Sunday Committee meetings each year (virtual or in person). Some additional time may be required during sponsorship campaigns and in the lead-up to the festival.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Partnerships & Business Development Committee Member will work closely with other members of the Committee to:

    • Lead the development and implementation of Newcastle Fringe Festival’s partnerships and business development strategy, supported by other Committee members
    • Identify, cultivate and secure new corporate sponsors, philanthropic partners and strategic community partnerships
    • Develop long-term relationships with businesses, foundations and community organisations that support the Festival’s growth
    • Identify new revenue opportunities through commercial partnerships, sponsorships and collaborative initiatives
    • Work collaboratively with Committee members to develop compelling partnership proposals, presentations and sponsorship packages
    • Support the negotiation and delivery of partnership agreements, ensuring partners receive exceptional value and recognition
    • Support in-kind partnerships that strengthen festival delivery and reduce operational costs
    • Assist in evaluating and reporting partnership outcomes, demonstrating impact and return on investment to partners
    • Contribute to the organisation’s strategic planning, financial sustainability and long-term growth.
    • Attend Committee meetings well prepared, having read and understood all papers beforehand

    Essential Experience

    Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:

    • Business development
    • Strategic partnerships
    • Corporate sponsorship
    • Sales and relationship management
    • Philanthropy or fundraising
    • Marketing or stakeholder engagement

    Desirable Experience

    • Established professional networks within the Newcastle, Hunter or NSW business community.
    • Experience working with not-for-profit organisations, arts organisations or major events.
    • Experience developing sponsorship proposals, partnership strategies or commercial agreements.
    • Knowledge of corporate social responsibility (CSR), ESG initiatives or philanthropic giving.
    • Experience in marketing, communications, public relations or stakeholder engagement.
    • Previous governance or committee experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    As a member of the Committee and an Office Bearer, the Treasurer will:

    • Monitor and review the financial administration and sustainability of Newcastle Fringe Festival
      ● Oversee and participate in the preparation of the annual budget and reporting of
      performance against budget
      ● Ensure that Newcastle Fringe Festival’s financial control procedures are sound and effective
      ● Direct and oversee services provided by a contracted bookkeeper
      ● Contribute to the budgeting aspects of government grant applications and acquittals
      ● Contribute to organisational strategic planning and delivery
      ● Monitor financial risk management and ensure regulatory compliance, in particular,
      requirements under the ACNC Act for registered charities, Accounting Standards and requirements for DGRs
      ● Report to the Committee about the financial administration of the organisation to assist the
      Committee Members to understand the financial information, the organisation’s financial performance and any risks or non-compliance issues
      ● Attend all Committee meetings well prepared, having read and understood all papers beforehand.

    Essential Attributes

    • Connection with Newcastle Fringe Festival’s mission: Demonstrates a strong commitment to
      empowering artists and supporting the Newcastle arts community.
    • Relevant tertiary and professional qualifications (e.g. CPA certification): demonstrated technical
      knowledge and/or professional skills in one or more of the following: accounting, finance, governance
      and/or audit.
    • Collaborative and inclusive leadership style: Demonstrates a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive
      leadership approach and ensures that decisions are made in the best interest of the organisation and its
      stakeholders.
    • Strategic thinking: Demonstrable experience in strategic thinking, business analysis and business
      planning.
    • Communications skills: Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills and fosters robust
      and transparent communication and accountability

    Desirable Attributes

    • Experience on similar governance committees in the not-for-profit and/or public sector.
    • Additional skills in any of the following areas would be well regarded: Commercial business acumen,
      risk management, compliance, financial management, income generation, ability to advocate to funders
      and stakeholders, marketing, social media or law.

    HOW TO APPLY TO NEWCASTLE FRINGE

    If you’re new to Newcastle Fringe Festival (NFF) or to Eventotron, don’t stress — we’ve broken the application process down step by step. Follow along and you’ll have your registration sorted in no time.

    Step 1: Log in or Sign up

    Click the registration link from the Newcastle Fringe website. This will take you to Eventotron’s login page.

    • If you already have an account, just log in.
    • If not, sign up for a new account (it’s free).

    Step 2: Find Newcastle Fringe Festival

    Once logged in, search for Newcastle Fringe Festival or click directly from the link.

    • Hit the big pink Apply button to start your application.

    Step 3: Add Your Project Details

    You’ll be asked to provide some basic info:

    • Project name (your show title)
    • Admin contact (that’s you)
    • Production company (can just be your name if you don’t have one)
    • Genre & Sub-genre (don’t overthink it — pick the closest fit)
    • Awards: choose yes/no if you’d like your show considered.
    • Describe your artistry: emerging, local, disability, First Nations, etc.
    • World Premiere?: let us know if this is the first time your show hits the stage.

    Step 4: Behind the Scenes Info

    This section is not public — it helps NFF match you to the right venue.

    • Behind the Scenes show description: practical info about your production.
    • Classification: choose carefully (audiences rely on this).
    • Audience age range
    • Running time: max 60 mins.
    • Number of performers

    Step 5: Ticketing & Pricing

    • Suggested ticket price: no higher than $43, with an average of around $25.
    • Optional concession price.
    • Opt-in for Early Bird Discounts (1–14 Feb) at 10% off to boost early sales.
    • Acknowledge the box office split: Artists receive 75% net; NFF retains 25% to cover venue, tech, and promotions.

    Step 6: Venue Preferences

    • Select your first and second venue choices — Don’t spend too much time on this. Tick small, medium, large venue at the very least and leave the rest to us if you’re not familiar with the venues. We will decide the best venue for your show based on your technical requirements provided (no matter which one you select).
    • Add your preferred dates and timeslots.

    Step 7: Technical Requirements

    Here’s what you’ll need to specify:

    • Tech setup: bring all music/video on an unlocked device with 3.5mm jack + HDMI. (No USB sticks!)
    • Tech run: 30 mins included; extra time at extra cost.
    • Own tech: yes/no.
    • Live music or recorded?
    • Video content? yes/no.
    • Lighting cues: max 10.
    • Tech statement: a short description of what you’ll do on stage.
    • Upload a PDF with your stage plot, lighting cues, etc.

    Step 8: Insurance

    Upload your Public Liability Insurance (PLI) certificate.

    • Don’t have it yet? You can pledge to supply it before the festival.
    • Approx. cost: $100. (NFF can’t endorse providers as we’re not insurance experts.

    Step 9: Payment

    Registration fee: $325 for all genres for two shows. Music is $200 for one show. Any additional shows are $100 and deducted from ticket sales post-festival.

    • Must be paid by 30 September for your application to go ahead.

    Step 10: Complete the Marketing Form

    Your registration isn’t final until this stage is done!

    • Images:
      • One square 1000px x 1000px (no text).
      • Optional: one image with text.
      • Optional: a vertical high-res A4 400dpi image (could be chosen for covers).
    • 50-word marketing blurb.
    • One-liner hook: short and punchy.
    • Optional: video/showreel, media release.
    • Audience callouts: strobe, nudity, swearing, trigger warnings, etc.
    • Socials: show URL, Facebook, Insta, media interview availability.

    Handy Tips

    • Waiting on Adelaide Fringe? Apply for the last weekend of NFF (Adelaide will be over by then).
    • No changes to images or text after your registration (including marketing form) is final.
    • Premieres only: you can have until the end of October to supply your key art.
    • All shows finalised by November — NFF will then confirm venues, dates, and times no later than mid-November at the very latest.
    • A Marketing Kit will be sent out to help you promote your show in Newcastle.

    That’s it! Once your application is at 100% and payment is made, you’re officially part of Newcastle Fringe Festival. Don’t forget to press the orange button (image below)  once you’re 100% complete. See you on stage in March!
