Newcastle Fringe invites all artists to perform in our annual fringe festival which happens in the last 2 weekends of March each year. This year it is being held from 17th to 27th March 2022.
Call out for applications takes place in September of each year. We encourage artists of all persuasions to join us and be part of the global fringe movement. It is our objective, when programming, to include a wide variety of different acts and genres. We guarantee that 25% of the acts will be from amateur, student and graduate groups. Newcastle Fringe has a high average audience rate when compared to other fringe festivals. Newcastle Fringe hires venues, provides technical support, runs the ticketing & FOH and promotes the festival as a whole.
Newcastle is two hours’ drive north of Sydney. It has a very good train service, an airport and the facilities of a large city. Ample accommodation and public transport is available. It is also on the coast. The surf is only 10 minutes’ walk from the CBD and the Hunter Valley vineyards just a short drive away.
It is understood that by applying to perform at the Newcastle Fringe that you are intending to perform. Late withdrawals are deemed as very unprofessional.
The first law in performing is – THE SHOW MUST GO ON.
A note on Covid-19
In 2020 the Newcastle Fringe had to cancel the festival at very short notice. In 2021 the festival went ahead with streaming included to covid-proof the event. In 2022 streaming will also be available for the same reasons. In this way we are guaranteed to be able to produce a festival. We are hopeful however, that the show will go on with live audiences in attendance. We have a wide range of venues onboard this year and will do our best to match up the best venue for each show.
