A SPECIAL TIP FROM THE PUBLICIST

The number one element of your application that will help sell your show is the imagery you use. There are two types of images that will be needed. One is the primary key art for your show and the other is an image that media will be happy to share. The two are very different.

Key Art
This is the image that showcases your show in the best light and is likely to include graphic elements such as the name of the show, awards won, review quotes etc. It’s a good idea to provide this image in both a landscape and a vertical orientation. It goes without saying that it needs to be high resolution – (300 DPI, 3MB, around 1200 x 800 pixels as an example). Remember you are trying to communicate what your show will deliver to your audience. It should attract attention and make people want to see your show.

Media Images
These are equally important. It is a fact that media will not run your image if it contains any graphic elements or type. The Newcastle Fringe publicist is always looking for good images that media will love, to send out with our press releases and to provide for magazine stories and even cover images. Every year it is difficult to find images that are good enough to grace the cover of a magazine. Keep this in mind when you are planning your application. The better the image, the more it will be used in publicity. This is a fact. Again it is a good idea to provide images in both the landscape and vertical orientations and it needs to be high resolution (see the note above).

Plan your photography session. It doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money. It just takes some careful thought and planning. Good luck!!
